Another review was published in today's edition of Dziennik. It's somehow nice to know that the writer who commited, perhaps, the most accurate and competent review of Lake & Flames (in Dziennik in late 2006), also "gets" this weird new album of mine. Not to mention what an honor is to see comparisons to some of my biggest heroes, like Reich and Wilson. See the article's scan (thus far it's not been made available online),

Milo wiedziec, ze autor ktory popelnil, prawdopodobnie, najtrafniejsza i najbardziej kompetentna recenzje Lake & Flames (w Dzienniku w poznym roku 2006) rowniez "kuma" ten moj dziwny nowy album. We've experienced some minor technical difficulties lately, but now the site is happily working again.
Ok, so the contest is over. The winning title is "Reciprocity". Congratulations! You have just won an original copy of Divertimento. I'll contact you by e-mail soon.
That's why I removed "Part One (Radio Edit)" from the Media section (and from Myspace, too). There's no more need for the appetizer, I guess; welcome to the full album.
You're also welcome to the newly opened Press section, where I'll be adding articles and reviews of Divertimento. It kicks off with two texts:
1. An interview posted on the Polish version of Spinner.
2. A review published on Screenagers -- the first of many, I predict, to expect from Divertimento things it (intentionally) lacks. By the way, some of its arguments seem at best dubious to me. For example, I personally don't see a lot of pop music with a "Bolero"-like narrative being released these days. Millions of song-oriented albums in 2008 are ok, but a rare, unusual "Bolero pop" in 2008 is regarded as an "old" idea? Say what? Where's the logic in that? They call it a "double standard" (which is perhaps, and sadly, the dominating point of view in this article). Second thing: Divertimento is, of course, a realization of a risky "no style, substance only" compositional concept (which, I guess, results pretty obviously from the polyphonic structure of radically decontextualized elements). And finally, while I admit to some Jarrett or Reich influences, I am truly no fan of Kenny G (the use of a soprano saxophone was inspired by Coltrane's sound on "My Favourite Things"). However, the author seems at least fairly competent in terms of music history (which doesn't happen too often in Polish music journalism, let us agree on that), so it's a nice read anyway.

Ok, a wiec konkurs rozstrzygniety. Zwycieski tytul to "Reciprocity". Gratulacje! Wlasnie wygralas/es oryginalny egzemplarz Divertimento. Skontaktuje sie z toba wkrotce mailowo.
Dlatego tez usunalem "Part One (Radio Edit)" z dzialu Media (i z Myspace tez). Przystawka nie jest juz potrzebna, jak sadze; zapraszam do pelnej plyty.
Zapraszam rowniez do nowo otwartego dzialu Press, gdzie bede dodawal artykuly i recenzje dotyczace Divertimento. Dwa teksty na dobry poczatek:
1. Wywiad z polskiej edycji Spinnera.
2. Recenzja opublikowana na Screenagers -- pierwsza z wielu, jak przewiduje, oczekujacych od Divertimento rzeczy, ktorych ten album (celowo) nie posiada. Swoja droga, kilka jej argumentow wydaje mi sie w najlepszym wypadku watpliwych. Przykladowo, osobiscie nie widze obecnie zbyt duzo muzyki pop operujacej narracja a la "Bolero". Miliony albumow piosenkowych w 2008 sa ok, ale rzadki, nietypowy przypadek "Bolero popu" w 2008 jest postrzegany jako "stara" idea? Ze co? Gdzie tu logika? To sie nazywa "podwojny standard" (ktory jest, byc moze, niestety, dominujacym punktem widzenia omawianego artykulu). Po drugie: Divertimento to oczywiscie realizacja ryzykownej koncepcji kompozycyjnej "sama tresc, zero stylu" (co chyba dosc jasno wynika ze struktury polifonii skrajnie zdekontekstualizowanych elementow). I wreszcie, chociaz przyznaje sie do wplywow Jarretta czy Reicha, to naprawde zaden ze mnie fan Kenny'ego G (uzycie saksofonu sopranowego zainspirowane bylo brzmieniem Coltrane'a w "My Favourite Things"). Przynajmniej jednak autor jest kompetentny w kwestiach historii muzyki (co nie zdarza sie zbyt czesto w polskim dziennikarstwie muzycznym, zgodzimy sie chyba), wiec tak czy owak fajnie sie to czyta.
To tyle na teraz, ale sporo sie dzieje wiec zapraszam jutro. Czesc.

Hi. We're still waiting for some kind of an update on the Empik breakdown incident. I'll try to keep you posted.
Thanks for all the e-mails and all of your brilliant ideas! I did not expect to see that much feedback, really. You can still submit your suggestions until tomorrow morning, when I am going to rummage through my e-mails and pick the one title I like best.
Now, let's get down to the important stuff. For starters, I have finally uploaded the long-promised introductory article to Divertimento (only in Polish as of now; the English version will follow in about a week). Enjoy.
Also, I have let go of the Mailbag section of the website (too much of a 90s kind of concept I guess), and replaced it with one called Songbook - an a-z index of all the music pieces I have ever written. I once saw a similar listing on Jens Lekman's official page and really liked the idea. Then again, too many people have been congratulating me on "Neyorkewr" over the years, a great song nevertheless but not mine at all. Make a note of it! Haha, just kidding. Take care.

Czesc. Wciaz czekamy na konkretne informacje w sprawie awarii Empikow. Jak tylko bede cos wiedzial -- dam znac.
Dzieki za wszystkie odpowiedzi w konkursie! Nie spodziewalem sie az tak wielu maili i az tak wielu swietnych pomyslow na tytul. Nadchodzaca noc to ostatnie godziny na podsylanie typow. Gdy obudze sie jutro, wybiore to, co bedzie mi sie najbardziej podobalo ze skrzynki mailowej.
I dwie wazne sprawy. Po pierwsze na stronie zawisl obiecany wczesniej wstep do Divertimento (na razie tylko po polsku; wersja angielska pojawi sie w ciagu tygodnia). Milej lektury.
Po drugie zas zlikwidowalem dzial Mailbag (ta idea korespondencji byla chyba zbyt 90s) i odpalilem w zamian nowy dzial o nazwie Songbook -- alfabetyczny spis kawalkow, ktore napisalem. Podpatrzylem kiedys cos takiego na oficjalnej stronie Jensa Lekmana i mi sie spodobalo. Czesto ludzie podchodza i gratuluja mi utworu "Neyorkewr" -- od teraz juz beda wiedziec, ze z ta (wspaniala skadinad) kompozycja nie mam nic wspolnego. Taki zarcik! Do uslyszenia.

Sup. Unfortunately, the CD might not be available for a couple more days due to unexpected logistic issues at the Empik Megastore franchise. I'll let you know more as soon as I get any details about the whole situation, but I hope it'll just be an insignificant delay. I will also post information about other places where you might find the album right after they're confirmed.
In the meantime I challenge you to a little competition: if you come up with the coolest title for "Part One (Radio Edit)", and promptly send your idea to drawrecords(at)drawjr.pl, you will be awarded one of the 500 hand-numbered limited edition copies of Divertimento (courtesy of the DRAW label). Siemka. Ze wzgledu na wewnetrzne problemy logistyczne sklepow sieci Empik pojawila sie lekka obsuwa z dostepnoscia plyty. Plenty of news today, folks.
The radio edit of Divertimento's first part is now available on Myspace, too. There and in the Media section of this here site you can also listen to a 100 second "album sampler", which is made of short fragments of all five tracks. While it might not make you familiar with the general concept of Divertimento (this I will soon discuss in an introductory article to the album), I think it'll give you a rather good idea of the sound of the record.
And now for something completely different: the official release date of Divertimento has been set for Monday, October 20. Then you should be able to find it in at least a couple of stores in Poland, and more places will surely follow. Mystic took care of the record's distribution.
Finally, I encourage all of you to listen to Offensywa on Polish Radio channel 3, where I will be a guest in the studio on Friday, October 17, starting at 10pm. I'll be talking about Divertimento with Piotr Stelmach, and you might also catch a fragment of the record on-air.

Tamten "radio edit" z czesci pierwszej Divertimento w miedzyczasie zawisl na Myspace. Wrzucilem tez (zarowno tutaj do dzialu media, jak i na Myspace) 100-sekundowy "album sampler", ktory zawiera po 20 sekund kadego z pieciu utworow. I choc nie przybliza on zupelnie formalnej koncepcji Divertimento (o niej napisze niebawem w szerszym wprowadzeniu), to daje dosc wiarygodne pojecie o fakturze brzmieniowej plyty.
Teraz cos z innej beczki. Oficjalna data premiery Divertimento to poniedzialek, 20 pazdziernika. Tego dnia wydawnictwo powinno byc juz dostepne w sklepach plytowych -- jesli nawet nie w kazdym sklepie w Polsce, to w niektorych, a kolejne dojda na dniach. Dystrybutorem jest Mystic.

I have uploaded a stream of the radio edit of Divertimento's first part (look for it the Media section). It is a shortened and stripped-down version of the piece, created specifically to be broadcast by radio stations with limited time format of the featured recordings. It kinda sounds like a smooth-jazz impression, which is not really representative of the whole record, but works just fine as a brief teaser. Have a pleasurable listen.

Do dzialu media wrzucilem stream z "radio edit" czesci pierwszej Divertimento. Jest to trzykrotnie skrocona i odchudzona aranzacyjnie wersja utworu, powstala specjalnie dla stacji radiowych ograniczonych formatem czasowym prezentowanych nagran. Brzmi jak relaksujaca smooth-jazzowa impresja, co nie jest zbyt reprezentatywne dla calej plyty, ale pelni chyba role zgrabnego teasera. Przyjemnego sluchania zycze.
